In energy sapping heat, Nomads started well with an early goal from Olivia Besant in open play. This settled the team who grew into the game keeping shape and passing well before Olivia added a second although the shape was lost a little in the latter stages as the heat took its toll.
In the second half Nomads kept discipline and passed it nicely using width and with the rolling subs giving them a breather and the chance to try new positions Nomads added two further goals from their hardworking captain Emily Genee finishing the game 4:0 winners.

For the opening Nomads 2s session the primary aim was for players to get as much time on the ball as possible while still focusing on passing and movement. The main drill used was variation 1 below. Please see the notes next to this for some information on the various coaching points From the records that I have kept so far this season the Nomads goal scoring charts(excluding Herve Shield and Channel Island Ladies Tournament) are as follows.
Nomads 1s Joni Gorman 8 Lisa Grant-Phillips 5 Steph Edge 2 Ciara Mcquaid 1 Pat Fior 1 Tiff Newbald 1 Nomads 2s Emily Genee 4 Erin Moffett 4 Abbie Le Marquand 2 Ella Brennand 2 Jess Watling 1 Lilly Wysmuller 1 Lucy O'Connor 1 Triona Danaher 1 Zara Norem 1 The 2s were in action against top of the table DB Falcons a team who have scored at least 4 goals in every game while conceding only a few. Last time out Nomads narrowly missed out on getting a point having come from behind to level the scores before conceding a late winner.
Similarly to the previous game it was Falcons who started best putting pressure on the Nomad defence who were tackling well but struggling to maintain possession. This led to Falcons taking the lead around 10 minutes in. Slowly Nomads started to settle in and they slowly improved throughout the half. The 2nd half was far more even with Nomads starting to create some chances and look to attack rather than defend. However this opened up more space on the pitch and they fell 2-0 behind after a counter attack. Despite this they continued to look dangerous and when Erin Moffett scored the game was in the balance. In the end it was a further counter attack by Falcons which extended the score to 3-1, this ends the 2s Development league cycle. With the progress made in the last year and throughout this season so far we have a chance to win the Development cup in the New Year. Goal Scorers Erin Moffett With the 2s having their final game before Christmas this Sunday and the 1s having only 3 more games left in their league cycle please see a quick summary before of the sessions left before the New Year

It was a slow start for both teams, but the first half saw most of the play in Quackers half. Nomads made plenty of chances but the Quackers defence fought hard, eventually a true team effort between Lilly Wysmuller and Erin Moffett was finished by Emily Genee on the post.
Second half saw Nomads lose a player but they didn't let that phase them. Quackers fought for a goal with some great runs, breaking through Nomads midfield but Nomads had woken up and some great passing up the pitch saw the next goal from Moffett. Finally, Genee scored her second goal of the day from a deflection bringing the score to 3:0. This continues Nomad's strong start to the season and if they can continue their good run of performances they are likely to achieve a record high points finish despite playing less games this season. Goal Scorers Emily Genee x2 Erin Moffett With no teams from Guernsey travelling this year it was decided to make the CI tournament more fun and have each team play in fancy dress. Nomads theme was Cops and Robbers and each match of the tournament started in a different way. Due to illness and injury Nomads were missing a large amount of players but managed to get out a full side with help some of the young players from the 2nd XI The 1st match started with a Zulu start, the video can be downloaded below.
with everyone also looking to have enjoyed themselves.
A number of pictures have been added to the gallery but if anyone else has some please pass them on so we can add more. Finally the next training session is Wednesday 19th from 7:30-8:30 Training returns on 05/11/2014 from 7:30-8:30.
Next week will be slightly different with training sessions as follows Monday 10th - 6:30-7:30 Wednesday 12th - 8:30-9:30 Players are welcome to attend both sessions if available. In a top of the table clash Nomads 2s took on a DB Falcons team who had yet to concede a goal in the division having played 2 games.
The match started at a frantic pace and Falcons soon took the lead with a well worked penalty corner and repeated it midway through the 1st half to extend the lead. However despite the scoreline Nomads had looked dangerous on the counter attack and had been unfortunate not to score themselves. The half time break seemed to energise the Nomads side and led by Captain Sarah Mutimer tackled and intercepted the ball well and started the pressure the boys defence. Although struggling to get off shots a number of short corners were won and a well taken deflection goal by Emily Genee brought the score back to 2-1. However with Nomads pushing for an equaliser the boys continued to look dangerous on the counter and a well worked attack extended the score to 3-1, Emily Genee then struck with a 2nd goal a well struck effort from near the top of the D to give Nomads hope once more. But 1 further goal for Falcons decided the game. Despite the defeat alot of positives can be taken for the young Nomads side against a boys team who had previously not been challenged. With passing and movement improving each game and players learning their position results should continue to improve throughout the season. After 2 good results to start the season the 2nd team had a match in the sun at Claremont looking to continue their good form.
Unfortunately a slow start not helped by the pitch pulled it into a scrappy match and players started to wander from their positions and our ability to pass suffered. However despite this the finishing that was lacking in previous game was clear as we raced to a 3-0 lead at half time. In the 2nd half the passing play was generally much improved, however poor decision making further up the pitch meant that we created far less chances than we should. A goal around 10 minutes into the 2nd half for Jersey Ladies threatened a comeback but a goal for Ella Brennand via a Jersey Ladies foot moved it to 4-1 to settle any nerves. After this result Nomads are currently top of the 2nd division but will look for an improved team performance next week. |
