The 1st team session started with a focus on goal scoring as an area that has been an issue for some time.
This started with a close in game using the 3v3 in D drill below.
Once players had warmed up we transitioned into using the Creating Chances using deflections drill, this was kept simple with the emphasis on the angle of the run and deflecting the ball into a dangerous zone in and around the goal.
For some further guidance on the deflection see the Hockey Australia video below. This shows that the process can be simple. While the angle is slightly different the technique remains the same.
I am struggling to find a video of the variation where you use the pace and angle of the ball in a disguised slap.
For the opening Nomads 2s session the primary aim was for players to get as much time on the ball as possible while still focusing on passing and movement.
The main drill used was variation 1 below. Please see the notes next to this for some information on the various coaching points
Please see the below membership form, it is important to remember that this needs to be filled out prior to the season starting.
After a summer break Nomads get back to training from 7:30-8:30 on Wednesday.
Hopefully you all had time to catch a little of the Olympics with the GB Women winning Gold for the 1st time.
I will be linking in a few videos in the coming week to try and show highlights of some of the best bits.
For those that may be interested in either starting Hockey again or potentially learning for the 1st time please use the Contact form. New players are always welcome and we can also provide some equipment to borrow for people who would like to try out a session or 2 before making a decision
